The recordings, textures and light behind Chimes.

Capiz shell recording

shells-tinkle.WAV by Paddy Uglow / BristolStories, licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0.

Chimes uses eight short contact excerpts. Changes include cropping, 180 Hz high-pass filtering, volume normalization, boundary fades and resampling to 48 kHz. The excerpts retain their original pitch, without looping or synthesized decay. This recording is licensed for noncommercial use with attribution.

Capiz shell surfaces

The shell surface artwork was generated with OpenAI image generation. Chimes uses eight cropped variants with color adjustments and derived normal, roughness and opacity maps. These are artistic textures, not photographed material scans.

Bamboo recordings

bamboo_wind_chimes_1.wav and bamboo_wind_chimes_2.wav by jppi_Stu, licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0.

Chimes uses six individual knocks excerpted from these recordings. Changes include cropping, 100 Hz high-pass filtering, volume normalization and short fades at the boundaries. The original pitches and recorded decays are retained.

Bamboo surface and lighting

Bamboo Wall by Amal Kumar, from Poly Haven. The bundled textures use cropped cane grain with color and relief adjustments.

Bamboo Tunnel, photographed by Dimitrios Savva and processed by Jarod Guest. Chimes combines the HDR environment with its garden fill.

Both assets are public domain under CC0.

Metal recordings

Four individual tube strikes by Anthousai: strike 1, strike 2, strike 3 and strike 4. The recordings are cropped, volume-adjusted and faded at the boundaries.

Copper chimes by rivv3t. One separated strike is cropped, high-pass filtered at 80 Hz, volume-adjusted, faded and transposed into eight pitches. The samples retain the recorded decay without a looped or synthesized tail.

The archived Japanese furin recording by ayustat2001 is cropped to its dominant strike, volume-adjusted and faded. It is no longer used by a selectable style.

These recordings are public domain under CC0 1.0 Universal.

Capiz shells

shells tinkle by Paddy Uglow / BristolStories, licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0. Chimes uses eight short excerpts, cropped, high-pass filtered at 180 Hz, normalized, faded and resampled to 48 kHz. The original pitches and recorded decays are retained. Commercial use requires separate permission from the creator.

The shell surface uses eight crops of an original OpenAI-generated image, with derived normal, roughness and opacity maps.

Wood, metal and lighting

Walnut Veneer by Jenelle van Heerden supplies the walnut grain. Chimes adds subtle weathering, reduces saturation and adjusts roughness.

Studio Small 03, Residential Garden and Lebombo by Greg Zaal supply lighting environments. These wood and lighting assets are from Poly Haven under CC0.

The aluminum scan is Metal050C from ambientCG, under CC0. Chimes adjusts its roughness and softens the normal-map relief. Optional owner-supplied material libraries remain outside the app.

Source hashes and detailed processing records are included with the app resources.
